A&J was founded by brothers Andy and J.C. DePoy in August of 1985. Andy became the sole owner in 1995 and expanded A&J to the successful business it has become today. In April 1999, A&J bought its first curb machine, concrete forms and hired additional employees to begin our Concrete Team. In May 2001, A&J acquired experienced crane operators, certified blasters, equipment operators, and more with the closing of David A. Reed & Sons, founded in 1947. This added to our Excavation Team and began our Crane Team.
January 2004 brought more additions to A&J with the closing of Monger Brothers, Inc. in Elkton, Virginia. A&J expanded by purchasing rock trucks, track drills, and a blasting truck. Former Monger employees including owner, M.L. Monger, Jr. joined A&J to enhance our Blasting Team and Drilling Team. In February 2005, A&J once again expanded by offering asphalt paving. The Asphalt Paving Team gave A&J the ability to offer a complete earthworks package: excavation, concrete, crane service, drilling, blasting, and paving. All of your site work under one roof.
In March 2006, A&J added Topcon’s 3D GPS grade-control system to our equipment. Electronic grade controls put an entire project’s model in the memory of a computer in the machine’s cab. This technology has given us a better way to control our jobsite. Operators are no longer dependent upon grade stakes and can grade with complete accuracy.
In 2010, A&J lost its founding member with Andy’s passing. Andy’s vision continues with the management he had in place. With the A&J Team, the hard work of its employees, and the use of the latest technology, A&J continues to grow and remains one of the most successful site management businesses in the Shenandoah Valley.
